Lack of affection and respect toward one's wife

Oneís wife must be loved as oneself and respected, for Peter says to the husbands: ďLikewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hinderedĒ (1 Peter 3:7) and Paul says: ďHusbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for itĒ (Ephesians 5:25).

Therefore, brothers, donít beat your wife, donít throw anything at her, donít speak to her any bad word, donít treat her brutally, donít slander her, donít despise her, and donít think that she has only duties toward you because she has also some rights according to the Scripture. And woe to those husbands who ride roughshod over the rights of their wives; they will surely be punished for their haughtiness!
