Jesus Christ

45. What is Jesus doing in heaven?

Jesus Christ is at the right hand of the Father where He is interceding for us. For Paul says: “It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us” (Romans 8:34 – NKJV), and the writer of the epistle to the Hebrews says that Christ, “because He continues forever, has an unchangeable priesthood. Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them” (Hebrews 7:24-25 – NKJV).

To intercede or to make intercession means ‘to intervene on behalf of another to obtain a favour or a grace.’ His intercession is confirmed by the apostle John, who says: “My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world” (1 John 2:1-2 – NKJV).

Besides interceding for us, Jesus is also reigning, for Paul says to the Corinthians that “He must reign till He has put all enemies under His feet” (1 Corinthians 15:25 – NKJV). Jesus is “crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, so that by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone,” (Hebrews 2:9 – NIV), for in heaven all the angels worship Him.
