Jesus Christ

40. Under what form did the Son of God exist prior to His coming into the world?

He was certainly a heavenly being without beginning of days, because one day He said: “Before Abraham was, I AM” (John 8:58 – NKJV).

He was God, for the Scripture says that the Word was with God, and the Word was God (John 1:1); and He had a glory with the Father, for when He prayed to His Father (on the night He was betrayed) He said: “And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself with the glory which I had with You before the world was” (John 17:5 – NKJV).

We can say, as Paul said, that He was “in the form of God” (Philippians 2:6 – NKJV), so He was equal with God, yet He made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men, and He became obedient to death, even the death of the cross for our sake.

To Him be the glory now and forevermore. Amen.
