Jesus Christ
|
2. What does ‘Jesus is the Alpha and the Omega’ mean? |
|
It means that Jesus is the first and the last, the beginning and the
end. For Alpha and Omega are the first and the last letter of the Greek
alphabet respectively, so when we say that Jesus is the Alpha and the Omega
we mean that He is the First and the Last (Revelation 22:13). |
|
The fact that Jesus stated that He is the Alpha and the Omega confirms
His Deity because John heard the Father saying the following words: “It is
done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him
that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely” (Revelation
21:6). If the Father alone were God, He alone could say that He is the Alpha
and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last; the Son
could not say the same things, He could or should say that He is the second
but not the first. |
|
Therefore, let us proclaim with all boldness that Jesus Christ is the
Alpha and the Omega, to the glory of God the Father who gave Him the name
that is above every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in
that which is to come. Amen. |
