Eschatology

14. Will my dogs go to heaven with me?

No, they won’t, because dogs, like all the other animals, don’t have a soul that at death departs from their bodies and goes either to heaven or hell. Both human beings and animals have a spirit or a breath whose departure from the body causes their death and makes them return to dust, therefore, from this point of view human beings have no advantage over animals, as it is written: “For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no pre-eminence above a beast: for all is vanity. All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again” (Ecclesiastes 3:19-20). But animals do not have a rational and conscious soul which after death continues to exist consciously in the hereafter.
