2. If an elder of the Church is left a widower and he remarries, can
he continue to be an elder (or a bishop)? |

Of course he can, because
the Word of God teaches that marriage is dissolved by death. Thus, if he
remarries, he cannot be accused of being the husband of two wives. Instead, a
man who has divorced his wife (who is still alive) and remarried can be
accused of being the husband of two wives and for this reason he cannot be
elected to the office of a bishop in the Church of God, for it is written
that he must be “the husband of one wife” (1 Timothy 3:2). |
